This year's Relay for Life was another resounding success. Although it rained heavily until about 3pm on Saturday it cleared up to give wall to wall sunshine until it finished at 12 mid day on Sunday.
There
were more Teams than ever this year with lots of 'Family' Teams. One
young man Billy Gilbert aged 12 took part with his family and completed
120
laps over the 24 hours, that's equivalent to 30 miles. Well done Billy!
As
always there was a fabulous atmosphere and the Candle of Hope ceremony
was very moving with Lyndsey Smart (Adele tribute singer) singing three
lovely songs as people walked round reading the 450+ lit candle bags
dedicated to those who have lost their fight with cancer and those still
fighting.
Amro Ebbiary, a research scientist from Cancer Research UK Liverpool
came over again to hold a question and answer session and was available
all day for anyone who wanted to know how the Charity use the money
raised.
When we left on Sunday the money banked up to 11am was over £23,000. As
we know it's time to collect sponsor money so the final figure will be
available in early October.
